"Free to Play" CD release concert

July 22 at 10:00 pm
$10 general admission
$5 students and seniors
Cloud Ludum ensemble is happy to present a debut CD "Free to Play".
The style of the ensemble was born out of the collision of two somewhat opposite energies: twentieth century classical music and free improvisation. Drifting together, these energies bring to life original compositions, arrangements of contemporary classical pieces, various improvisational explorations based on avant-garde scores, and a lot of free improvised conversations. Free to Play is a collection of pieces that explores the entire spectrum of this stylistic combination.
Attendees will enjoy selections from Free to Play album, free improvised compositions, a few surprises in the field of interdisciplinary art collaborations and informal friendly atmosphere.

Cloud Ludum presents Stockhausen's Zodiac

October 2, 2012 at 9 PM
Admission is FREE
Cloud Ludum will perform Karlheinz Stockhausen’s work “Zodiac”. “Zodiac” is a cycle of 12 tone-row pieces each representing a zodiac sign. Probably it is one of the most popular Stockhausen’s compositions. Originally these pieces were written for music boxes but composer arranged them later for various vocal and instrumental ensembles. Due to this initial “openness” for multiple interpretations the composition presents a very inspiring material for a chamber jazz ensemble.

Performance of “Zodiac” arranged for Cloud Ludum by Olga Karaseva will include different types of improvisation ranging from classical variation and blowing over jazz chanes to riff based solo and free collective improvisation. It will be a non-stop performance, where one theme is leading to another. This format will allow the audience to experience intense emotional and intellectual journey through this XX century avant-garde composition.
